How to Choose the Right Dining Room Table (Part II)

by admin on August 1, 2010

Size: The most critical/crucial factor to consider when choosing a dining table is the size. Is it too big or too small for my dining room? That question will steal your time when you are in a furniture store. There will be no answer if you have not made the precise size from home. So be sure you have had the size in your hand before going to the furniture store.

Ideally, a dining table should be  big enough for the size of the room but it should also leave enough room around the sides for easy movement and also leave enough space for additional pieces of furniture like a sideboard,  a hutch, buffet or drinks trolley, or a mini bar.

Shape: The rule of thumb is that if your room is  square, then a square dining table may be a good idea and if the shape of your dining area is rectangular, the more conventional rectangular one will be a good choice.  When the proportions of your dining area are small and space is a constraint then a round or circular dining room table will fix the problem. Round dining tables are great space savers. Also consider the number of chairs that you want for your dining room. If all you need are four chairs, it does not make sense to placed 4 chairs at a rectangular table…. It can look pretty odd.

Now you can opt for dining room furniture that will accompany your family with its best for many years to come.
